Quick Heal Technologies Warns of Rising Threat from eSIM-Based Phone Hijacking

Pune, India, September 29, 2025: Quick Heal Technologies Limited, a leading global cybersecurity solutions provider, has raised an urgent alert following a surge in eSIM-based phone number hijacking scams that have led to substantial financial losses across Indian cities.

Researchers at Seqrite Labs, Quick Heal’s advanced malware research facility, have identified a growing trend where cybercriminals exploit the convenience of eSIM technology to gain control over victims’ mobile numbers. Once hijacked, attackers intercept one-time passwords (OTPs) and execute unauthorized transactions from bank and payment accounts.

How the Scam Works:

  • Victims receive calls from fraudsters posing as telecom or bank representatives, urging them to “upgrade” to an eSIM.

  • A fraudulent activation link or QR code is sent.

  • Once clicked, the victim’s physical SIM is deactivated.

  • All calls and SMS, including OTPs, are routed to the attacker’s device.

In one reported case from Noida, a woman lost INR 27 lakh after unknowingly clicking such a link. Similar incidents have surfaced in Mumbai and other metro cities, following the same attack pattern.

Global Rise in eSIM Fraud

Seqrite Labs warns this is part of a global surge in SIM-swap crime:

  • Over 1,000 SIM-swap cases reported by the FBI in the US last year (~$50M in losses).

  • UK’s Cifas saw a 1,000% spike, and Australia’s IDCARE reported a 240% increase in related complaints.

  • The remote nature of eSIM activation makes it easier for attackers to scale without visiting carrier stores.

Quick Heal’s Advice to Users:

  • Never click on eSIM links from unknown sources.

  • Only request eSIM changes via official telecom apps, websites, or stores.

  • If your phone loses service unexpectedly, act fast:

    • Call your carrier from another phone.

    • Freeze online banking activity.

    • Change passwords for key accounts.

Security Enhancements from Quick Heal:

  • Quick Heal AntiFraud.AI, now available under a freemium model, proactively detects phishing SMS imitating carrier messages.

  • Mobile security solutions updated to flag suspicious eSIM-related URLs using heuristic rules.

  • The Quick Heal Knowledge Centre now offers comprehensive guides, red flag examples, and recovery protocols for eSIM-related fraud.

“This new form of digital fraud is highly sophisticated and rapidly evolving,” said a spokesperson from Quick Heal. “We urge consumers, telecom operators, and banks to strengthen verification processes and rely on secure channels only.”

Quick Heal continues to collaborate with telecom operators, regulators, and law enforcement to dismantle malicious infrastructure and protect Indian consumers from emerging cyber threats.

AI in Hiring: 72 Say Human Validation is Non-Negotiable

AI in Hiring Boon or Blunder? 72 percentage Say Human Validation is Non-Negotiable, Finds Genius HRTech’s Survey

National, 23rd September 2025: Genius HRTech Limited (formerly known as Genius Consultants Limited), a leading Workforce Staffing Services & HR Solutions provider in the global market, has released the findings of its latest Digipoll Survey Report, exploring how Indian professionals view the growing role of Artificial Intelligence in recruitment.

The survey, conducted among 1,887 professionals across industries, reveals a workforce both intrigued by AI’s potential and cautious of its risks. When asked to what extent AI reduces the need for human intervention, 39% believe AI can handle most tasks independently, while 27% say it can only assist under human oversight. Interestingly, 18% feel human judgment remains central, and 16% assert recruitment should remain entirely human-driven.

On the critical question of AI making final hiring decisions, scepticism dominates. 72% respondents say human validation is essential, while only 15% are open to fully AI-driven decisions if systems are well-calibrated. A smaller 10% may allow AI in high-volume or junior hiring, whereas 3% remain undecided, awaiting stronger progress in AI ethics and transparency.

AI’s efficiency benefits are evident, with 47% of respondents reporting a significant reduction in time-to-hire and 28% noting slight improvements. However, 17% say they have seen no change, and 8% even highlight delays caused by overreliance on AI systems.

Candidate experience, however, remains a grey area. While 14% report positive feedback on AI-led recruitment, nearly half (49%) say reactions are mixed; some value efficiency while others find it impersonal. About 27% outright dislike AI processes for lacking the human touch, and 10% admit they have not actively tracked candidate sentiment.

When asked which recruitment areas have benefited most from AI, resume screening and shortlisting emerged as the clear winner with 62% votes, followed by skill-based assessments (18%), interview scheduling (14%), and candidate sourcing (6%).

On alignment with Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) goals, 30% believe AI reduces human bias, but 27% feel AI may replicate existing biases. Another 23% think improvements are underway but insufficient, while 20% remain uncertain due to lack of transparency and data.

The biggest concern for talent leaders remains the human element: 36% fear AI lacks empathy and intuition, 28% worry about overlooking unconventional talent, 26% highlight algorithmic bias, and 10% raise data privacy concerns.

Looking to the future, 39% expect AI to dominate most recruitment processes in the next five years, while 33% see it as a strong support system rather than a replacement. Interestingly, 24% predict a return of focus on human recruiters for relationship-building, while 4% believe adoption will slow due to ethical and trust issues.

Commenting on the findings, Mr. R P Yadav, Chairman and Managing Director of Genius HRTech Limited, said: AI has certainly accelerated the hiring process, but our survey shows the Indian workforce remains clear; technology cannot replace human judgment, empathy, and fairness. Companies must strike the right balance, using AI as a partner, not a proxy. The future of recruitment will be defined by how effectively we combine innovation with human intuition.”

The survey highlights a pivotal moment in India’s talent acquisition journey: AI has proven its value in efficiency and scale, yet its limitations on fairness, empathy, and inclusivity underscore the continued need for human oversight

Tabreed and Johnson Controls Sign Long-Term Deal to Develop Next-Gen Cooling Technology

Tabreed and Johnson Controls Enter Long-Term Agreement for Development and Supply of Next Generation Cooling Technology

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates – 22 September 2025: As part of a joint commitment to advance global best practices in district cooling, Tabreed, the world’s leading district cooling company, and Johnson Controls, the global leader for smart, healthy and sustainable buildings, have signed a framework agreement to accelerate the development and deployment of next-generation innovative cooling technologies.

JCI and Tabreed Agreement Photo

Tabreed is working on multiple long-term projects, many of which will be covered by the agreement. The collaboration targets gains in energy efficiency, reliability and total cost of ownership, while supporting regional climate neutrality strategies and corporate ESG priorities. It will focus on deploying next generation centrifugal chillers to enhance system efficiency and reduce climate impact, with performance analytics provided via Johnson Controls’ platforms for real-time optimisation and reduced downtime.

The agreement was signed during a special ceremony hosted at Tabreed’s Abu Dhabi headquarters, by Tabreed’s Chief Executive Officer, Khalid Al Marzooqi, and Johnson Controls’ Vice President and President EMEA, Richard Lek.

Following the ceremony, Al Marzooqi said: “Our company has entered a new, exciting chapter of unprecedented growth, which is aligned with our long-term strategy. We have multiple projects either in progress or planned for the near future, and this agreement helps both parties by securing supplies of essential equipment for large-scale infrastructure. By pairing Tabreed’s operational excellence with Johnson Controls’ advanced chiller technologies, we will bring tangible benefits to customers and communities alike through unrivalled energy efficiency and reliability.”

Richard Lek added: “This collaboration with Tabreed allows us to demonstrate how proven technologies and data-driven services can raise the performance bar for district cooling – at scale. Together we’ll help better meet the demand for cooling in rapidly growing urbanisations while reducing energy consumption and emissions and improving quality of life.”

The collaboration will be built on two main pillars. Firstly, advanced chiller technology, where Johnson Controls will provide a wide range of large-capacity chillers with variable-speed drives and modular systems for flexible loads, all engineered to reduce energy use and maintenance requirements while optimising space within Tabreed’s district cooling plants. Secondly, end-to-end lifecycle services that will cover design and engineering support, commissioning and retro-commissioning, performance guarantees based on KPIs, upgrades and retrofits, and remote monitoring through network operations centres to extend asset life and reduce overall ownership costs.

The framework aligns with global sustainability goals by prioritising energy-efficient, low-emission technologies, adopting refrigerants with a lower environmental impact, while applying circular-economy and resource-efficiency principles that connect plant-level improvements to wider policy decarbonisation outcomes.

According to the IEA – International Energy Agency, operational energy used in buildings globally represents about 30% of final energy consumption. District cooling, which centralises cooling production and distribution, offers a more sustainable and cost-effective solution than conventional air conditioning as it significantly reduces energy consumption, lowers peak power demand and minimises the environmental impact of cooling.
