“Public opinion has never been more powerful, nor more vulnerable. We live in an age where information travels instantly, yet understanding often arrives too late. The defining challenge of our time is not the abundance of facts but the scarcity of context.

Journalism and public relations are often portrayed as opposing forces. In reality, they serve different, yet complementary, responsibilities. Journalism examines, questions, and verifies. Public relations explains, contextualises, and connects institutions with the people they serve. One safeguards accountability; the other safeguards understanding. Both are ultimately accountable to the public’s trust.

Communication is not measured by the volume of messages produced but by the confidence they inspire. Influence without credibility is fleeting. Reputation without integrity is fragile. Trust, earned patiently and preserved consistently, remains the only lasting currency of our profession.

On this World PR Day, I extend my sincere appreciation to journalists who pursue truth with rigour and independence, and to every PR professional who works behind the scenes to ensure that facts are communicated with accuracy, responsibility, and context. Though our roles differ, our shared purpose remains the same: to strengthen public understanding.

As Aristotle observed, character is the foundation of persuasion. In public relations, as in journalism, credibility is not simply an asset it is the profession itself.”
