“Forensic Science plays a crucial role in ensuring justice through scientific investigation”, avers Forensic Expert Dr. Harsh Sharma, at Amity

Amity Institute of Forensic ScienceAmity University, organized a Guest Lecture on “Scientific Support at the Scene of Crime” by DrHarsh Sharma, Retd. Director, State Forensic Science Laboratory (SFSL), Madhya Pradesh, and Former OSD (Academics), National Forensic Sciences University, Bhopal.

Delivering the keynote lecture, DrHarsh Sharma averred, “The term ‘Forensic’ is derived from the Latin word ‘Forum’, meaning justice. Combined with science, it forms the discipline of Forensic Science, which plays a crucial role in ensuring justice through scientific investigationIn the past, judgments largely relied on eyewitness accounts, which were often influenced by bias, perception, and other factors. The advent of forensic science enabled investigators to collect objective and scientific evidence, strengthening the criminal justice system and helping courts deliver fair and accurate verdicts. Students aspiring to build careers in forensic science must cultivate passion, perseverance, and an unwavering commitment to uncovering evidence ethically and scientifically in the pursuit of justice.”

He elaborated on crime scene management, evidence collection and preservation, forensic analysis, and the importance of maintaining the chain of custody to ensure the admissibility of evidence in courts. Drawing upon his extensive professional experience, he emphasized that meticulous scientific investigation, combined with ethical practices, is essential for delivering justice. He also encouraged students to continuously upgrade their knowledge and practical skills to meet the evolving demands of forensic science.

During a Career Interaction session, Mr. Shams Tahir KhanManaging Editor, Aaj Tak, shared his experiences as an investigative journalist and discussed the growing importance of forensic science in modern crime reporting.  He emphasized that every crime scene is unique and punctuality is of utmost importance while investigating a crime scene. Therefore, investigators must reach the crime scene immediately after the crime. He urged students to cultivate curiosity, integrity, and critical thinking while pursuing careers in journalism and forensic investigations.

Highlight the significance of the Guest Lecture, Dr. Amarnath Mishra, Associate Professor, Amity Institute of Forensic Science, said, “Forensic science has emerged as one of the most critical pillars of the criminal justice system. Such interactions with eminent experts bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world investigations, enabling students to develop scientific thinking, practical competence, and professional ethics required to excel in the field.”
