Bengaluru, Feb 13: Infosys Limited (NYSE: INFY) today released its inaugural Manufacturing Tech Index: AI Pulse, providing a comprehensive analysis of how manufacturers worldwide are adopting, investing in, and scaling artificial intelligence (AI) across their enterprises. Developed by the Infosys Knowledge Institute, the research draws on insights from 650 senior manufacturing executives globally, offering a clear view of AI’s transition from experimentation to enterprise necessity.
The study reveals that AI is now considered a strategic imperative by 75% of manufacturers, reflecting a decisive shift in priorities as businesses navigate operational complexity, workforce constraints, and faster innovation cycles.
Key findings from the report include:
- AI Investments Scale Rapidly: More than 50% of manufacturers invest over $2 million per AI implementation, highlighting the capital-intensive nature of AI adoption, which requires integration with physical operations, data engineering, and workforce enablement.
- Cybersecurity Leads Adoption but Remains a Barrier: AI adoption is highest in cybersecurity and operational technology (OT) systems at 57%, yet cybersecurity also represents the top barrier to scaling AI (23%), with risk expected to increase as IT and OT environments converge.
- Data Challenges Persist: Issues with data quality, access, lineage, and governance continue to impede AI deployment at scale.
- Strategy Must Pair with Execution: While 75% of manufacturers embed AI into enterprise strategy, meaningful adoption is achieved when strategy is combined with disciplined execution, unified data architectures, cross-functional operating models, and workforce readiness.
The Infosys Manufacturing Tech Index: AI Pulse underscores that manufacturers who successfully embed AI across operations gain measurable value, improve operational efficiency, and accelerate innovation. The report highlights the urgency for leaders to move beyond experimentation and adopt structured, scalable AI strategies to remain competitive in an increasingly complex and digital industrial landscape.
“AI is no longer optional; it is a necessity for modern manufacturing,” said Infosys Knowledge Institute spokesperson. “Our research highlights that while commitment to AI is rising, success depends on execution, governance, and workforce enablement. Manufacturers who integrate AI strategically and operationally are best positioned to drive sustainable value and innovation.”
