
Saksham (Samrakshan Kshamatha Mahotsav) is an annual awareness campaign initiated by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Government of India. It is designed to promote fuel conservation and raise awareness of sustainable energy practices. Organized by oil and gas public sector enterprises in collaboration with local authorities, educational institutions, industries, and key stakeholders, Saksham aims to drive India towards a greener future.
The inaugural function of Saksham 2026 was held today at National Institute for the Empowerment of Person with Intellectual Disabilities (NIEPID), Bowenpally, Hyderabad. The event commenced with the lighting of the lamp by Shri V K Mishra, Jt. Chief Controller of Explosives, PESO, Hyderabad Circle , along with State Heads of Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) and the Deputy Director (I/C) of NIEPID . The dignitaries emphasized the significance of fuel conservation and its impact on the environment and India’s GDP.
The launch ceremony at NIEPID featured the unveiling of the Saksham 2026 logo and marking the commencement of this nationwide movement. The theme for this year’s campaign, “Conserve Oil and Gas, Go Green” (Tel aur Gas Bachao, Harshit Urja Apnao), underscores the transition towards renewable energy sources and energy-efficient solutions for environmental sustainability.

The State Level Coordinator from HPCL welcomed all dignitaries and participants, stressing the urgent need for petroleum conservation. With India ranking as the third-largest energy consumer globally and heavily dependent on imported petroleum products, the necessity of fuel conservation measures, renewable energy adoption, and clean fuel initiatives was strongly emphasized.
Saksham 2025 will run from 2nd February to 16th February 2026, featuring diverse activities to engage citizens, debates, wall paintings, cyclothons, walkathons, workshops, seminars and awareness programs. The campaign will target various groups, such as school children, youth, LPG users, fleet operators, farmers, industry professionals.
Shri V K Mishra commended the oil and gas sector’s efforts in promoting energy conservation and emphasized the importance of collective action in preserving natural resources. He appreciated the theme of Saksham 2026, reinforcing the necessity for clean energy solutions to ensure a sustainable environment.
The campaign aims to inspire individuals and communities to adopt eco-friendly practices, playing a crucial role in mitigating climate change and securing a sustainable energy future.
