Bangalore, June 9, 2025: The IISc Innovation Council (IIC) in collaboration with the Foundation for Science Innovation and Development (FSID) at IISc Bangalore conducted Ché-Mystery: Science & Career – An Interactive Chemistry Workshop aimed at high school students as part of IIC’s outreach program.

The workshop welcomed around 35 enthusiastic students from various schools across Bangalore and beyond. The day-long event featured a series of engaging sessions designed to take participants on a journey through the evolution and relevance of chemistry—from its philosophical origins to its impact in daily lives. Topics explored included:

  • From Natural Philosophy to Chemistry: Tracing the transformation of thought into science and understanding chemistry’s role in innovation and industry
  • Chemistry’s Industrial Impact: Stories from global chemical giants like Dow and BASF, and the explosive legacy of Alfred Nobel
  • Why Study Chemistry Today?: A reflection on the discipline’s enduring significance and future promise

The sessions were led by Dr. Amitava Pramanik, Head of the SEED Division at FSID and felicitated by Dr. Tulasi Gandikota, Head of University Innovations at FSID. The interactive format encouraged students to ask questions, share perspectives, and actively engage with the concepts being explored.

Parth Kumar, Convenor of the UG Chemistry Club Catalysts and a third-year undergraduate student at IISc, conducted engaging science demonstrations, showcasing experiments such as the traffic light reaction, underwater fireworks, hidden messages, and the blue bottle reaction.

A few school teachers also accompanied the students, offering encouragement and support throughout the session. The workshop concluded with reflections, shared experiences, and insights from the students, creating a space for dialogue and inspiration.
